Some people may not know that there are certain foods you should avoid putting into your garbage disposal. Here are a few of those foods to avoid.

The first food to avoid that you may think is okay is coffee grounds. Coffee grounds can form a thick paste when they get wet or ground more. This thick paste can form clogs in your disposal. Another food to avoid putting down your garbage disposal is leftover cooking fat or grease. Once this cooking fat or grease cools, this too can clog your garbage disposal. So just scrap off the cooled leftover fat or grease into your trash. Another food that you may think is okay is vegetable peels. Potato, onion, or even carrot peels can slip through the disposal’s grinders causing major clogs. The last food you should not put down your garbage disposal is large amounts of dry expandable foods. In large quantities, if these foods get wet they will expand and can also cause clogs in your disposal.

These are just a few foods you may want to avoid putting down your garbage disposal to help you to avoid clogging your pipes and garbage disposal.
