Have you recently repaired cracks in the drywall only to notice that the crack has returned? A crack above the window creeping towards the ceiling has also just been observed. Why is this happening in my home? What you are observing may be an indication that your home is settling. This is a sign that something underneath your house has shifted and needs your attention.

Here are a few warning signs that your home might be settling and sinking:

  • Sticking doors and or windows. When your foundation shirfts it pulls at the structural wood framing of your house. The door and window frames start to move off-center.
  • Look for cracks in the foundation, and the exterior of your house. These can be cracks in the block or a brick façade overlay.
  • Foundations settle and move when changes in the ground surrounding your home occur. Water saturation is the most common cause.

Foundation settling and sinking is something that should be fixed as soon as you can. It will not get better on its own and worsen over time. Repairing your foundation gives you structural stability, peace of mind, and better resale value for your home.
