Many people do not mind squirrels eating from their bird feeders. Others, on the other hand, would like the squirrels to eat somewhere else because they scare off the birds. If you are of the second group here are a few tips to help discourage squirrels from visiting your feeder.

The first tip would be to try to discourage squirrels from climbing the pole, if you use one to hang your feeder, by attaching a squirrel baffle to the pole. You can purchase squirrel baffles or some people will wrap a slinky around the pole so that squirrels will not be able to climb up your pole.

Another tip is that you can try using a caged bird feeder or a squirrel-resistant bird feeder. Just keep in mind that a caged bird feeder will only allow small birds to enter the feeder.

The last tip is that you may want to offer squirrels their own food on a dried corn cob feeder. If you offer the squirrels their own food, they may just leave your bird feeder alone.

These are just a few tips to help you squirrel-proof your bird feeder so that you are better able to enjoy those birds.
