If you have been shopping around for electric heaters, you may have come across an electric baseboard heater. Here is a little information about baseboard heaters and how they heat.

An electric baseboard heater is a heating unit that is normally short, but wide unit. An electrical baseboard heater is installed near the floor around the baseboard, which is why it’s called an electric baseboard heater. Baseboard heaters are normally hardwired right into the existing home’s electrical wiring. There are some units that are plugged into a standard electrical outlet, but these are less common.

Baseboard heaters produce heat through either the convection or hydronic process. Most baseboard heaters produce heat through convection. Convection baseboard heaters have metal fins that warm the cold air near the floor. This warm air rises throughout the room. Hydronic heaters have an electric heating element that warms an internal liquid reservoir that is surrounded by metal fins.

Convection baseboard heaters are cheaper and have more of an option when it comes to sizes and power ranges. Convection heater plug-in units are also more readily available. Hydronic baseboard heaters are considered to be more energy efficient.

This is just a little information about what is an electric baseboard heater.
